Itinerary

  • Day 1: Marrakech arrival and explorationYour adventure begins in Marrakech, the Red City, a lively hub of history, culture and art. In the afternoon, explore the medina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site: the alleys of the souks with textiles, spices and crafts, and the Jemaa el-Fnaa Square with its performers, food vendors and musicians. Overnight in a traditional riad.
  • Day 2: Marrakech to Dades Valley via Ait BenhaddouDepart Marrakech and cross the High Atlas over the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, with views of peaks and Berber villages. Stop at Ait Benhaddou, an ancient kasbah and UNESCO World Heritage Site, to explore its clay structures and learn about its role in Moroccan history and in films. Pass through Ouarzazate, the Hollywood of Africa, and arrive in the Dades Valley. Dinner and overnight in a riad among the red rock formations.
  • Day 3: Dades Valley to Merzouga via Todra GorgeAfter breakfast, visit Todra Gorge, a canyon with cliffs over 300 metres high, and walk along the river. Travel through desert landscapes to Merzouga, the gateway to the Erg Chebbi dunes. At sunset, ride a camel across the dunes to a luxury desert camp, with a traditional Moroccan dinner under the stars and a night in a tent.
  • Day 4: Merzouga desert explorationWake up early for the sunrise over the dunes. Spend the day exploring the desert and local culture: visit a nomadic Berber village to learn about their way of life, and stop at the village of Khamlia, famous for its Gnawa music. Return to the camp for dinner and an evening of stargazing.
  • Day 5: Merzouga to Zagora via AlnifLeave Merzouga and travel through the Saghro Mountains, passing the town of Alnif, with views of the barren desert and a lunch stop at a local restaurant. Arrive in Zagora, the Gateway to the Desert, and see the Timbuktu sign that marks the old trade route. Overnight in a guesthouse.
  • Day 6: Zagora to Ouarzazate via the Draa ValleyDrive through the Draa Valley, home to one of the largest palm groves in Morocco, past Berber villages and kasbahs. Continue to Ouarzazate, where you can revisit the Taourirt Kasbah or the Atlas Film Studios. Dinner and overnight in a riad.
  • Day 7: Ouarzazate to MarrakechReturn across the High Atlas to Marrakech, with stops for photos. On arrival, a farewell dinner at a traditional Moroccan restaurant.
