Itinerary

  • Day 1: Fes to Merzouga via Ifrane, Cedar Forests and Ziz ValleyLeave Fes early and travel through the Middle Atlas, known for its cedar forests and picturesque towns. Stop in Ifrane, called the Switzerland of Morocco for its alpine-style architecture and cool climate. Continue through the cedar forests near Azrou, home to Barbary macaques, with time to meet them and enjoy the mountain air. As you descend into the Sahara, drive through the Ziz Valley, with its palm groves and Berber villages, and stop for photos at viewpoints. Arrive in Merzouga, the gateway to the Sahara, and after a short rest ride camels into the dunes of Erg Chebbi. At the luxury desert camp, enjoy a Moroccan dinner under the stars with live Berber music and storytelling around the campfire, and spend the night in a tent.
  • Day 2: Merzouga to Todra Gorge and Dades ValleyWake up early for the sunrise over the Sahara, as golden light covers the dunes. After breakfast, return to Merzouga and visit Rissani, an old trading hub, to explore its market and learn about the history of the region. Continue to Todra Gorge, a canyon with red cliffs up to 300 metres high, and walk through the gorge. Travel on to the Dades Valley, the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs, with its rock formations, oases and Berber villages. Overnight in a riad or guesthouse overlooking the valley.
  • Day 3: Dades Valley to Fes via the High Atlas MountainsStart the return journey to Fes through the High Atlas, with rugged peaks and mountain villages. There are several stops for photos, and your guide points out hidden places and shares stories about the region. Arrive in Fes in the late afternoon, where the tour ends.
