Essaouira Day Trip

Escape the hustle and bustle of Marrakech and travel to the coastal town of Essaouira, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its history, architecture and culture. The day mixes relaxation, exploration and sea views, and it is an easy way to see another side of Morocco.

• Departure from MarrakechYour day starts with an early pick-up from your hotel or riad in Marrakech, then a comfortable drive in a private air-conditioned vehicle through the countryside. On the way you can spot argan trees, often with goats standing in their branches, and stop at a women’s argan oil cooperative to learn how the oil is made and buy authentic products.
• Arrival in EssaouiraYou arrive in a relaxed town by the sea. Visit the medina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with lively souks of handicrafts, jewellery and local art. See the Skala de la Kasbah, a historic sea bastion with views of the Atlantic and the old city walls. Then go to the port of Essaouira to watch the fishermen bring in their catch and see the fish market.
• Fresh seafood by the seaHave lunch at a seaside restaurant. The town is known for freshly grilled seafood: grilled sardines, lobster and calamari, and the traditional Moroccan fish tajine.
• Free timeAfter lunch, relax on Essaouira beach, visit the art galleries that show work by local artists, or walk through Moulay Hassan Square, surrounded by cafes and shops.
• Return to MarrakechAs the sun sets you drive back to Marrakech and arrive by late evening.
