Itinerary

  • Departure from MarrakechYou are picked up at your hotel in Marrakech. After a short introduction to the day, the drive into the Ourika Valley begins, through the High Atlas mountains, with a look at rural life on the way. Stop at panoramic viewpoints to take photos, and pass traditional villages where life moves at a slower pace. Deeper in the valley you find green fields, fragrant herbs and tall trees, a strong contrast to the dry land around Marrakech.
  • The Ourika WaterfallsOn arrival, visit the waterfalls, one of the best-known places in the valley, set among rocks and greenery. You can hike up for a closer view, feel the fresh air and the cool mist, and hear from your guide about the falls and how the local Berber community has lived with nature for centuries. The hike is fairly easy, though the path can be rocky. If you prefer, enjoy the view from a café at the base of the falls with a fresh mint tea and a light snack.
  • Lunch in a Berber restaurantEnjoy a traditional Moroccan lunch at one of the small family-run restaurants in the valley, often with views of the landscape. The meal usually includes tagine, a slow-cooked stew of meat or vegetables, couscous with vegetables and meat, and mint tea.
  • Local markets and villagesAfter lunch, walk through the Berber markets or villages along the valley. Shop for handicrafts such as pottery, jewellery and woven rugs, wander between the small adobe houses and meet local people, who are known for their hospitality. Your guide can tell you about farming, architecture and daily life in the valley.
  • Return to MarrakechIn the late afternoon you drive back through the mountain roads and villages. You are back in Marrakech in the late afternoon or early evening, with time to rest.
