Before Your Sahara Trip: What to Know and Pack

The camel ride, the camp night, the clothes and the small details that make the trip easier.

Overview

A night in the Sahara is one of the highlights of a trip to Morocco. A little preparation makes it more comfortable, from what to wear on the dunes to what to bring for the camp night.

These are the things our travellers ask us most often before they leave.

What to pack

Comfortable clothes and walking shoesYou will walk in kasbahs, gorges and on the dunes, so wear shoes you can walk in.
Sun protectionSunglasses, sunscreen and a hat.
A light jacketThe Sahara is warm by day and cool at night, especially outside summer.
A small overnight bagPack what you need for the camp night. Your main luggage stays in the vehicle.
Your cameraFrom the Atlas Mountains to the dunes, there is plenty to photograph.
Water and snacksA bottle of water and a small snack are useful on the drive and the dunes.

The camel trek and the camp night

You ride a camel across the dunes to your desert camp. If you prefer not to ride, there is an alternative 4x4 transfer, so tell us in advance.

At the camp you have dinner and a night under the stars, and in the morning you can watch the sunrise over the dunes. The camel ride is part of the Sahara experience.

Meals and dietary needs

Breakfast and the dinners listed in the programme are included. Lunches and drinks are at your own expense. Tell us in advance about vegetarian or other dietary requirements.

Temperature changesDays are warm and nights are cool, so layers work best.
Flexible stopsThere are chances for photo and rest breaks during the journey.
Long drivesSome tours cover a lot of ground, with long driving days between regions.
Best seasonsSpring and autumn are generally the most comfortable for the desert.
FamiliesFamilies and children are welcome, but consider the long driving hours.
